Sabbath & Festival Times

The Sabbath (or Shabbat), begins on Friday night as it starts to get dark, and ends when it is dark on Saturday night. The London Jewish Community uses pre-published times for the London area that are available in local Jewish papers, or from a variety of internet sites. If you need Shabbat or Festival times for police operational purposes, please contact the JPA - we would be pleased to assist you.

Please note that some communities may "bring Shabbat in" (begin observing the Sabbath) at 20:00 during the summer months, though this does not affect the time it ends.

For more information on Shabbat see our "Ask the Rabbi" section.

More information on the various festivals and fasts, along with their specific dates, can be found here.

JPA Events

The JPA is organising a Holocaust Memorial Day event on 27th January 2010, which all members are invited to. If you would like to participate, please contact us.

The Annual General Meeting date has not yet been confirmed, but will be in April 2010. Further information is available from the Executive Committee as usual, and members will receive full information by e-mail in due course.

Other planned events will follow shortly... please bear in mind though that for security reasons we will not advertise our social events on this public site - if you are a member, or potential member, and would like more information about this, please get in touch with the Executive Committee.
